The Memphis Association of Black Journalists formed in 1975 as a unified body concerned about the progress of Black Americans in the communication profession. The formation of this group developed out of a need for Black Americans in broadcast, print, and professions supporting these endeavors to identify each other and their various roles; foster understanding of each other to deal with professional and economical problems effectively. As time has progressed, we are no longer oblivious and unaware of each other. Thanks to this great organization, we have impacted our community in a tremendous way. The strength of our awareness is what this association is built on and is what has sustained us thus far.
